4 PhD (Doctoral Candidate) positions in Economics (m/f)

  • Fixed- term 14 months initial contract, extendable to 48 months,
  • 40 hours/week (full-time)

in the research field of Economics, within the newly established Doctoral Training Unit on “Migration, Inequalities and Labour Markets (MINLAB)”, which is funded under the framework of the PRIDE scheme of the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).

Your Role

The objective is to improve knowledge on three major contemporary issues in modern societies, namely: migration, inequalities and labour markets. The training programme will provide the researchers with the skills and knowledge that will allow them to take up this challenge. An indicative list of potential topics is proposed below. This list is by no means exhaustive and applicants are encouraged to propose their own research topics.

Your Profile
  • Master’s degree in Economics (quantitative or research training)
  • Eligible for the Doctoral Schools in Economics and Finance: Economists should hold a degree equivalent to a Research or Quantitative Master in Economics  (see htttp://dsef.uni.lu)
  • Strong interest in at least one of the three fields: migration, inequalities and labour market.
  • Good English language skills
  • Willingness to work in an inter-cultural and international environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Curiosity and self-motivation

  • Motivation letter detailing how the applicant meets the selection criteria. The motivation letter should identify up to three topics and order of preference. The topics can be chosen among those listed below, or be the applicant’s own research proposals in the relevant areas;
  • Publication list (if applicable);
  • Contact details of two persons willing to provide a letter of recommendation;
  • Copies of diplomas, transcripts of (current and past) Master in Economics with grades (with English translation)[1].

Selection process:

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. The positions will be offered to candidates following approval by the steering committee of the Doctoral Training Unit.

b- Studying the impact of immigration policies increasing the match between immigrants skills and labour market needs on the economic performance of immigrants.

c- Evaluating the impact of policies on labour market outcomes based on state-of-the-art research designs in applied econometrics using survey or administrative data.

Advisor: Prof. Konstantinos Tatsiramos

d- Understanding how public policies affect integration, migratory trajectories (including subsequent and return migration) and immigrants’ ties with the home country.
