Vacancy for Intern for Women for Refugee Women in London
Women for Refugee Women is seeking an intern from a migrant or refugee background to work with our team in London 3 days a week from 4 September for 6-9 months and support all aspects of our work. We will pay the London Living Wage.
Women for Refugee Women is a small charity working with women who have sought asylum in the UK. Every week over 100 women come to us in London for English classes, advice, yoga and lunch, and activities including drama and public speaking training. We ensure that refugee women’s voices reach wide audiences through our media, research and events, and we advocate for a fairer asylum system. We have a busy period coming up: in November we are holding a National Refugee Women’s conference in Manchester, we are shortly publishing new research on women in detention, and in March 2018 we will be holding activities for International Women’s Day.
This is a great opportunity to support a frontline organisation working with women who seek asylum, and to develop your skills and abilities in this rewarding area. All training will be provided.
We are looking for a woman who has a refugee or migrant background, who can demonstrate to us that she is committed to social justice through her own experience of getting involved in campaigns, events, or volunteering. We are looking for someone who is highly organised, with good communication and office skills, who is able to show initiative in busy situations and enjoys working with women from varied communities. You will need to be prepared to carry out repetitive office tasks such as inputting data and recording petty cash expenses, as well as more interesting tasks such as helping to organise our events.
To apply, please send your CV and a cover letter explaining why you are right for this role to [email protected] by 23 July.
We will carry out interviews with shortlisted candidates the week beginning 31 July. Please do not apply unless you are able to commit to starting on 4 September for 6-9 months.
