Call for applications: 2 Postdoc positions offered at Max-Planck-Institut für Physik
The Max Planck Institute for Physics is a research institute focussing on particle and astroparticle physics from experimental and theoretical perspectives. We invite applications for two Postdoctoral positions in the group of Angnis Schmidt-May, with a focus on gravitational theories and their relation to cosmology.
In particular, the group’s research covers the following subjects:
- mathematical aspects of gravity and spin-2 field theories in general
- gravitational theories with multiple metrics
- gravitational theories including torsion, higher curvatures or nonlocal terms
- cosmological aspects of extended models for gravity
- phenomenology of spin-2 theories
Other research interests at the institute include various aspects of string theory (such as AdS/CFT, extended geometries, string phenomenology), black holes and cosmology. Collaborations with the respective groups will be highly encouraged.
The successful applicants will have strong knowledge of classical and quantum field theory, general relativity and cosmology. They should have good communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team as well as independently. Candidates must hold or be near completion of a PhD in a relevant branch of theoretical physics.
Salary and benefits are according to the German public service pay scale (TVöD Bund). The contract is initially limited to 2 years with the possibility of an extension. The intended starting date is early 2018 (with some flexibility).
The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
For further information please contact Dr. Angnis Schmidt-May (A.SchmidtMay@physik.uni-muenchen.de). We will continue to receive and consider applications until the positions are filled. Applications must be uploaded here and should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a statement of research interests, and names and e-mail addresses of three referees that will provide letters of recommendation. For questions please write to email@example.com.
