Call for Applications, Doctoral / Postdoctoral Position at the University of St. Gallen

The Center for Governance and Culture in Europe at the University of St. Gallen seeks to appoint a doctoral or post-doctoral research fellow for research in the framework of the project EU-STRAT (www.eu-strat.eu). EU-STRAT studies the relationship between the European Union and the countries in the European Eastern neighborhood taking into consideration the role of third parties such as Turkey. The three years project (until end of April 2019) receives funding from the EU’s H2020 framework and is run by a consortium of universities and think tanks based in Germany, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, France, Poland, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus and Switzerland.

The successful candidate will join the research group headed by Prof. Dirk Lehmkuhl working on Turkey as a regional power. The research concentrates geographically on Turkey’s outreach to the South Caucasus but is open to address other areas of Turkey’s neighbourhood as comparative cases. We study Turkey’s impact in the issue areas of trade, migration, energy and security with specific interest in the dimension of functional cooperation.

Applicants are expected to:

  • hold a Master degree in social sciences
  • have sound knowledge of Turkey and ideally but not necessarily the Caucasus
  • have expertise in quantitative research methods
  • have a good command of English and some Turkish language skills
  • demonstrate the ability and motivation to pursue an academic career

Applicants should send their full application by 26 February 2017 to Katharina Hoffmann (Katharina.hoffmann@unisg.ch).

Full applications include: a letter of motivation, CV, a research proposal (1-3 pages) highlighting the candidates’ proposed contribution to research on Turkey as a regional player, 1-2 examples of their academic work (MA thesis, seminar papers or puplications) and the contact details of two academic references.

For further inquiry please send an email to Katharina Hoffmann. (Katharina.hoffmann@unisg.ch).
