Call for Participants: European Youth Media Days 2017
The European Youth Media Days (EYMD) is one of the biggest events in Europe dedicated to young journalists. This year it will take place in the European Parliament seat in Brussels. Participants will experience three days of media workshops, political discussions, hands-on media production and invaluable insights into the European Parliament and international media milieu. They will interact with high-level European politicians, professional journalists and experts and engage in intercultural exchange through practical media production.
Over the course of the three-day workshop, each young journalist will work to produce a report on the topic of the seminar through their medium of choice – print, photo, radio, video (video making and TV production), multimedia (on-line tools and data journalism), and graphic design/layouting. At the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the event, all participants will have an opportunity to win the EYMD Jubilee Award in several categories (more information at the end of this call).
Topics of this year’s edition are media literacy and rise of populism. They will be addressed in workshops with professional journalists and experts and in two panel discussions with Members of the European Parliament, representatives of socio-political sphere in Belgium and other high-ranking guests. The European Youth Media Days will give the freedom to critically and constructively think about, debate and journalistically cover rise of populism and state of the art of the European media literacy. Besides this content, the EYMD jubilee celebrations will be an opportunity for reflecting on the developments in media field, based on experiences of the EYP network, especially from past editions of the EYMD, discussing the upcoming EYMD’s and challenges present in the media world.
The European Youth Press invites applicants to become one of the 90 young journalists (86 EU + 4 non-EU), aged between 18 and 30, who will report from the European Parliament in Brussels in the framework of European Youth Media Days (EYMD) between 16 and 18 October 2017.
